Survivors & Carers

add remove

Relay For Life is a time for our community to come together and celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who are no longer with us and fight back against cancer.

If you or anyone you love has ever heard the words ‘you have cancer’, you know how much if affects us and the people around us. None should face cancer alone, so whether you’re a Survivor or Carer, getting involved in your local Relay For Life can introduce you to others who are facing similar challenges and create opportunities for sharing stories, friendship and hope.

To honour your inspiring journey, you’re invited to be our Guest of Honour at Relay For Life.

You can choose to walk in the Survivor and Carer’s Lap of Honour or just come along for the celebrations.

We then invite you to join our exclusive morning tea at 10am. This year we are requesting that you wear a Hat for Hope to the morning tea. This hat will represent our hope for a cancer free future.

Under 18s

Parent or Guardian Consent

If you are under 18 years of age, you are required to have a parent or guardian complete a Parental Consent Form before the event.

This form will be emailed to youth upon registering for the event.

All youth are required to have the consent of their parent/guardian via the form above. Failure to do so will result in the youth being unable to attend the Relay For Life event.

There will be limited on the day registrations available.

Youth Team Supervisors

All participants under 18 years of age are required to have a supervisor over the age of 21 present with their team for the duration of the event.

You must register your supervisor by completing the Youth Supervisor Form that is emailed to you upon registering as a youth. It is the responsibility of the parent, guardian, team captain or youth to ensure the youth supervisor has completed this form.

If a youth team attends Relay For Life without the required number of supervisors over the age of 21, the team will not be able to participate.

Please note that for youth teams, you must have 1 supervisor per 10 youth participants.

If you are a School Team, please contact bobbie.jocrosland@nswcc.org.au

Each team can book a team site to set up tables, chairs, shade tent, marquee, esky, fundraising activities and anything you need to be prepared and comfortable on the day. This will be your team’s ‘home base’ and somewhere to leave your stuff when you are walking/running or enjoying the entertainment.

All teams must re-book their campsites each year. You can book your team's 2024 campsite here.

Banquet

add remove

The Shire Relay Banquet is a group outdoor dinner, situated on the track, and is a great time at the event to sit and relax with your team mates (and friends and family) and enjoy the entertainment on the main stage. Banquet guests are encouraged to bring their own food from home, order in food from a local takeaway restaurant, or purchase food onsite from the food trucks that will be available.

The Banquet will begin at 7:15pm and will be located in front of the main stage around the track.

Banquet tables are $50 (1 table sits 10 people) and must be booked and paid for in advance via the online booking form here

Shelley Wood Award

add remove

Shelley Wood worked tirelessly on the Relay For Life Committee and the event, alongside her family, to bring hope, courage and inspiration to others affected by Cancer. Despite her treatment and the effect Cancer had on her health, Shelley continued to give back to others with a huge smile and a love for life. Shelley attended the 2005 Shire Relay and read the OATH at the Opening Ceremony, shortly before passing away on 21 June 2005. Her memory lives on through the volunteer work of her family, Marion and Don Wood (parents) and Stuart Wood (brother) and the Sutherland Shire Relay For Life Shelley Wood Award.

The Award is given each year to a survivor who also has experienced the effects of Cancer; someone who against all odds, has fought back and overcome their life circumstances, and who looks beyond themselves to the welfare of others to bring hope, courage and inspiration. Invitations for nominations are requested each year at the Sutherland Shire Relay For Life. The Shelley Wood Award winner will be announced at the wrap up function on Wednesday 17th May, Tradies Gymea. Please nominate a survivor and write their story of their diagnosis, treatment and journey of living with Cancer.

Completed form can be returned to Helen Scott at helendscott@yahoo.com
